European Mobility Week is marked every year from 16 to 22 September. This European initiative encourages towns to introduce sustainable transport measures and urges people to change traffic behavior - opting for alternative modes of transport instead of cars.
The theme of this year's campaign is safe walking and biking while the campaign slogan is: Walk with us!
The European Commission has set two ambitious targets for urban mobility:
European Mobility Week is a manifestation promoting alternative modes of transport in relation to motorized transport using fossil fuels. The aim of the European Mobility Week is to make efforts to reduce the use of passenger cars and to improve the conditions for public transport, movement of cyclists and pedestrians through promotional events, and the implementation of at least one sustainable measure of sustainable urban mobility.
In Serbia, the European Mobility Week has been celebrated since the beginning, since 2002. The number of participating towns and municipalities varies, and last year a record of participants from Serbia was broken - 21. Again this year, SCTM will invite all its members to participate in the event.
The activities of marking the European Mobility Week are conducted by the SCTM as part of the program “Support to Local Self-Government on the Road to EU Integration - Phase II” funded by the Government of Sweden.
