European Mobility Week manifestation takes place every year since 2002 in period 16-22 September. The event, launched by the European Commission, brought together over 2,900 towns from 49 countries across Europe and the world this year. The event aims to draw attention to the negative impact of motor transport on the environment in towns and calls for a change in behavior in traffic - a shift towards alternative modes of transport that do not consume fossil fuels. The theme of this year's campaign was SAFE HIKING AND CYCLING, and our members responded fully to this theme with their activities. The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities supports this event among its members through the Program "Support to Local self-governments on the Road to the EU - Second Phase", funded by the Government of Sweden.
This year, 21 local self-governments from Serbia participated: Bajina Basta, Bela Palanka, Belgrade, Cuprija, Cajetina, Kikinda, Krusevac, Kladovo, Mionica, Nis, Osecina, Pirot, Palilula (Belgrade) Sombor, Srbobran, Temerin, Uzice, Vrbas, Vrsac, Veliko Gradiste and Sabac. SCTM provided the appropriate promotional material to the local self-government units that applied on the website of the European Mobility Week by Friday 14 September, provided from the project "Support to Local Authorities on the Road to the EU - Second Phase", funded by the Government of Sweden.
The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities supported the European Mobility Week manifestation in Pirot, Sabac and Krusevac through the project "Sustainable Urban Mobility in Towns and Municipalities in Serbia", funded by the GIZ Open Regional Energy Efficiency Fund.
The Mayor of Belgrade participated in an online conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility together with the mayors of the capitals of the countries of Southeast Europe.
Within the EMW, on Tuesday, September 17, a workshop was held at the SCTM premises to develop the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the City of Belgrade, to which city municipalities and towns and municipalities bordering the City of Belgrade administrative area were invited. This activity was organized in partnership with the Belgrade City Administration's Traffic Secretariat.
On Friday, September 20, the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities for the second time called on the mayors to support the action "Day without cars in towns and municipalities" by walking or cycling to work. This year, too, a large number of leaders of our towns and municipalities responded to our call, with the action extending to employees in administrations (Opovo), schools (Bajina Bašta) and kindergartens (Uzice).
