European Local Democracy Week
European Local Democracy Week (ELDW) is an annual European event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. Local authorities from all 47 Council of Europe member states and their associations are invited to register and organize public events to promote and encourage democratic participation at the local level.
This initiative aims to further disseminate the universal values of the Council of Europe, such as democracy and human rights, and to offer participants the opportunity to become involved in a European network that is engaged in promoting citizen participation at local level.
ELDW main topic for 2019-2020 is "Local Democracy: Building Trust". Towns and municipalities can organize activities throughout the year, with a focus on the main event that would take place during the week from 14-20 October 2019.
We invite municipalities and towns to participate in the organization of this event. When choosing an activity, we encourage you to use and promote relevant Council of Europe and Congress initiatives.
Registration is done online on the ENLW website.
