New brochure on the legalization of housing in Roma settlements
The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) within the Program "EU Support to Roma Inclusion - Strengthening Local Communities for Roma Inclusion", funded by the European Union, has developed a "Guide to legalizing family homes in Roma settlements in Serbia".
The Guide is intended for residents of Roma settlements who are interested in legalizing a family house built without a building permit. It contains basic explanations of the steps that need to be taken in order to legalize and register a building, it refers to houses up to 400 m2, and it can also be used to legalize illegally added parts of houses or auxiliary buildings.
The prepared material is based on the Law on Legalization of Buildings and related laws, and the edition was prepared on the basis of conditions that are recognized as typical or common in Roma settlements in Serbia.
During October, SCTM representatives will visit 10 local self-governments (Leskovac, Pirot, Aleksinac, Vrsac, Pozarevac, Surdulica, Mladenovac, Sombor, Paracin and Lebane) to talk to residents of Roma settlements about the problems of legalization and steps to implement it in accordance with the Guide that will be distributed free of charge to citizens on that occasion.
