A meeting with towns and municipalities on the occasion of the European Mobility Week

On Wednesday, 10 July 2019, a consultative meeting was held with towns and municipalities to mark the European Mobility Week. Like every year, the European Mobility Week is marked from 16 to 22 September and culminates on 22 September with the No-Car Day. For this year's event, the European Commission selected safe hiking and cycling, while this year's slogan is "Walk with us"! By selecting this topic, the European Commission wishes to emphasize the importance of walking as an active type of movement that is useful for health and the environment.

Last year, a record number of towns and municipalities from Serbia marked the European Mobility Week, and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities registered the campaign "A Day without Cars in Towns and Municipalities in Serbia" on the website of the European Mobility Week. Last year's action was attended by more than 40 mayors who came to work by foot or by bike, thus sent a message of support for changing behavior in traffic, favoring non-motorized modes of transport.

At a consultative meeting held in the SCTM, representatives of 10 towns and municipalities exchanged experiences in marking the European Mobility Week. The SCTM presented the specific types of assistance it plans to provide to the towns and municipalities that join the action. In this sense, a program of marking a manifestation has been prepared, and it will be offered to all towns and municipalities. The Manual for the organization of the manifestation has been translated to Serbian language, and in the preparation are suitable promo materials - gifts for the participants to be distributed to the municipalities and towns registered on the EMW web site. Representatives of the Town of Krusevac shared their experiences in the organization of EMW in previous years, especially in 2015 when this town entered the selection of the ten best towns in Europe in the competition for the European Commission Award. Towns and municipalities in Serbia, especially those who are in the process of developing a sustainable urban mobility plan (Belgrade, Sabac, Pirot ...), are also invited to run for the prize this year.

Support to towns and municipalities in marking the European Mobility Week is being implemented as part of the Program "Support to Local Self-Governments in Serbia on the Road to the EU - Second Phase" financed by the Government of Sweden.
