Zlatibor to gain a new multifunctional Palisad Park through the EU Integra Programme
The Municipality of Čajetina will implement the reconstruction and revitalisation of the multifunctional Palisad Park on Zlatibor as part of the integrated project “Prevention, Response and Adaptation to Climate Changes in the ITI Užice – JOINT PATH 2 RESILIENCE”. The project is being implemented through the European Union support programme for integrated territorial development in Serbia – EU INTEGRA, in partnership with the Ministry of European Integration and with financial support from the European Union through IPA III funds.
The EU INTEGRA Programme is implemented by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), with the aim of advancing sustainable urban and integrated territorial development in Serbia through the application of European Union Cohesion Policy principles and the strengthening of territorial partnerships.
The multifunctional Palisad Park is envisioned as a modern and sustainable public space that brings together opportunities for recreation, leisure, education and social interaction within a natural environment. The park will be organised into 17 interconnected thematic zones, forming a unique landscape system linked by pedestrian paths and green areas.
The project includes the preservation of existing trees and additional greening through the planting of vegetation adapted to Zlatibor’s climatic conditions, contributing to the creation of a higher-quality and more climate-resilient public space. The park will offer a wide range of facilities for all generations, including a skate park, cycling track, children’s and recreational areas, amenities for senior citizens, an art park – acoustic garden, as well as outdoor spaces for educational and community activities.
In addition to the reconstruction of Palisad Park, activities planned within the Municipality of Čajetina include the installation of a solar power plant on the municipal administration building, the rehabilitation of land damaged by fire in Kriva Reka, training programmes in energy efficiency and emergency response, and the procurement of equipment for rescue units and emergency response services.
The JOINT PATH 2 RESILIENCE project is one of five integrated projects supported under the first grant scheme of the SCTM component of the EU INTEGRA Programme. It represents an example of a territorial partnership aimed at strengthening climate resilience, promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life of citizens across the Užice ITI territory.
The project is led by the City of Užice, while project partners include the municipalities of Čajetina, Bajina Bašta and Požega, the Zlatibor Regional Development Agency, and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia – Sector for Emergency Management.
The total value of the project “Prevention, Response and Adaptation to Climate Changes in the ITI Užice – JOINT PATH 2 RESILIENCE” amounts to EUR 2.3 million, of which the European Union is providing EUR 1.3 million in grant funding through the EU INTEGRA Programme. Nearly EUR 448,000 of EU grant funding has been allocated to activities implemented within the Municipality of Čajetina.
The implementation of the project will strengthen the capacities of local partners to deliver development initiatives and respond more effectively to climate-related challenges, while creating a greener, more sustainable and higher-quality living environment for both residents and visitors of Zlatibor.
The EU INTEGRA Programme is funded by the European Union with a total value of EUR 15 million. The Programme supports integrated territorial development in Serbia through the application of European Union Cohesion Policy principles, the strengthening of local partnerships and the implementation of sustainable development initiatives that improve citizens’ quality of life.
